2023-2024 Project Update

2023-2024 Project Update

In the 2023/2024 financial year, we continued our investment at origin in Cocagi, Rwanda. In this most recent project update, learn about the new developments and milestones your purchase funds.

Your investment continues to support the cooperative in developing and preparing the land though harvesting, mulching, purchasing organic manure, weeding & pruning. In this financial year, the cooperative was able to purchase enough organic manure for 10 hectares of land. Organic manure is crucial to improving the quality of the crop and harvest.

10 hectares of ripe cherries were harvested this financial year, also including the transporting of cherries to the washing station for further processing.

Your purchase funds ongoing maintenance of the land, such as weeding 10 hectares and an additional pruning of 2 hectares of land. Maintenance of the land is crucial to developing a high quality crop, along with combating ongoing issues relating to climate change and instability of the seasons.

We also continued to fund the cooperative’s Agronomist Adeline, who visits the cooperative regularly to educate the farmers on sustainable farming practices and ensures they are being applied. Focusing on the cooperative’s development ensures they are growing a successful and sustainable crop to maximise their income each harvest, a key aspect of sustainable farming.

Part of this ongoing development involves members of Cocagi Femme gathering for regular meetings to share ideas and offer support to one another as they continue to grow their coffee export business. Meetings took place this financial year that involved evaluating performance, and planning future work and projects for the cooperative.

These project updates serve as a constant reminder that coffee serves a much greater purpose than that of just a beverage or commodity. It’s a lifeline for so many. We therefore have a responsibility to ensure we protect it and make it a sustainable and successful investment for future generations.

Your choice is a powerful one, and it’s because of your support that we can continue to invest in the future of coffee. Together, we can be part of the solution.
