As the legend goes, a 9th-century Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi stumbled upon the peculiar behaviour of his goats after they nibbled on the bright red berries from a certain shrub. Intrigued by the goats' newfound vitality and energy, Kaldi decided to sample the berries himself, experiencing a similar surge in alertness.
