Quarterly Cocagi Update! How your purchase continues to make a difference.

2022 marks our third year supporting the wonderful female farming community of Cocagi in Rwanda. In this most recent update, learn about the new developments and milestones your purchase continues to fund, as well as the challenges that farmers continue to face in the coffee farming industry.

Since starting the project 3 years ago, we have increased the coffee plantation from 3,800 coffee plants to 20,100. Adding a further 100 coffee plants since the last project update in March. By increasing the number of coffee plants in the planation, the community is able to further increase their earning capacity. We are continuing to support the preparation of the land through funding the purchase of compost and fertilisers to allow new seedlings to thrive.

We are also continuing to fund the support of community Agronomists to help train and educate farmers to better protect their crop against ongoing issues such as climate change and instability of the seasons. Constant training and education in this area is imperative to harvesting a successful crop.

Cocagi Femme continues to partake in regular board meetings to discuss sustainable farming practices and sharing ideas to ensure there is continuous growth within the co-operative. Four board meetings were held in this period, with co-operative leaders regularly visiting the coffee plantation.

As we look forward to the next upcoming quarter, your purchase will continue to fund the construction of toilets and changing rooms within the plantation, on-going board meetings, the purchase of organic manure for crops, and further training for women in Cocagi Femme.
