St Remio goes to Host 2019
Host Milan is a bi-annual event and one of the world’s biggest food service events. For people looking for new innovation and coffee brands, this is THE event to go to, let alone be showcased. To say having a St Remio stand there was a monumental milestone is an understatement! We are still a new company, only in its infancy and there we were, up in lights highlighting a unique but very important message and that is to focus on growers.
When I walked around the stands, I saw a lot of glamour, a lot of WOW, and that is what we are used to seeing from coffee brands. The dazzle. The sizzle. But for us, coffee is not about that aspect, in fact, far from it. Our image albeit beautiful, was jarring amongst our coffee peers because we dare to challenge the conversation and redirect the conversation away from roaster and back to the grower, where great coffee is created. And as I stood there and looked at Dative from Cocagi with her smiling face on the image that stood 4m tall, I felt proud to stand there and be driving change. To challenge the status-quo of coffee and to highlight the real heroes and the ones we need to not only celebrate and champion, but invest in and pay fairly.
The feedback we received from international buyers and cafes was wonderful. From the meaningful imagery on our packing, to the story we are telling, it was heart-warming to see people really stop and take in our message. Over the 5 days, we have met many people, discussed many opportunities and now we are working hard to follow up and see where those opportunities might take us. Of course, the plan is to build St Remio’s presence here in Australia, but we also have big plans to take the brand to the world! To work with like-minded companies that share our same values and want to be part of the movement of change.
For anyone who loves coffee, machinery, capsules, vending, I mean anything and everything – this is THE fair. It is great to see the evolution of brands, technology, the rise in sustainable/ compostable options in relation to capsule solutions.
Maybe, just maybe we met someone at that fair that could change our lives. I don’t know. But what I do know, is that for a small Australian brand, to be present at this biggest coffee show is a big achievement and in 2 years’ time, I hope to return back, bigger and better!
