Cocagi Update! How your purchase is making a difference.

As you are aware, we have been supporting the female farming community of Cocagi in Rwanda for the past 2 years. This marks our third year of support to this wonderful community as we continue to fund the purchase of more land, a plant nursery, an Agronomist and ongoing training and development for this community.

Since we started this project in 2019, we have been able to increase the coffee plantation from 3,800 to 20,000 coffee plants, significantly increasing their earning capacity and income. We continue to support the preparation of the land through the purchase of fertilisers and compost to allow the seedlings to thrive.

One of the biggest challenges all farmers are facing in general is climate change and the instability of the seasons. This has made farming very challenging as we saw in 2020 when devastating rain destroyed a portion of the tomatoes we planted for the community. Learning and refining their farming skills to help combat these challenges is imperative to Cocagi harvesting a successful crop. With the ongoing support of Patricia the community Agronomist, she is able to teach new, sustainable methods to help ensure they are able to secure a successful yield and income from their land despite the challenges.

Cocagi Femme continues to participate in regular board meetings to discuss farming practices, share ideas and ongoing training to ensure there is continuous growth and improvement within the co-operative.

During this upcoming quarter, your support will allow this community to continue their investment in personal development as well as the construction of toilets and change rooms in the plantation.

Since 2019, the funding we have provided has allowed for improved access to essential needs like meals, clothes, health insurance and school materials for children. How wonderful to know that your purchase is contributing to the health, wellbeing and success of this community and their families. Your choice is a powerful one. So, thank you for choosing St Remio and being part of the positive movement.
